Sea of Galilee

The Sea of Galilee is actually more of a lake, but is called a sea because there was no original (Hebrew or Greek ? can’t remember) word for lake. That’s why much larger bodies of water in the west are called lakes, but even small bodies of water in the east are called seas.

For example, Lake Michigan is as big as the nation of Israel, and the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea together make up only a fraction of the size of Lake Michigan.

So sea is the eastern word for lake.
